2018 City Of Carrollton Outstanding Community Organization Award

During the 2018 Carrollton Citizen Event Night, the Giving Garden of Carrollton was awarded the 2018 City Of Carrollton Outstanding Community Organization Award.

City of Carrollton Outstanding Community Organization Award

The Giving Garden, Carrollton’s first community garden, provides a sustainable gardening opportunity for the citizens of Carrollton without regard to demographic or socioeconomic status. The organization donates half of what they grow to non-profit pantries so that those in need in our community may enjoy the benefits of fresh produce. The Giving Garden promotes organic food practices, education and recreation, social interaction, philanthropy, conservation, exercise and therapy, green space, and neighborhood and community development. The Giving Garden also mentors the start-up of other community gardens in Carrollton.

In 2017, the Giving Garden donated 3,200 pounds of organic produce to Christian Community Action and Aldersgate United Methodist Church Food Share, exceeding 2016’s record by nearly a half-ton.

3rd Annual Big Event

The Lewisville ISD East Zone held its third annual Big Event yesterday and the Giving Garden was fortunate to have 22 Hebron students and their sponsor join us in a wonderful work day in the garden. We had a mountain of mulch to move and with the help of these strong students and a great group of gardeners the task was accomplished by mid-day. The mission of the Big Event reads:  “Through service-oriented activities, The Big Event promotes campus and community unity as students come together for one day to express their gratitude for the support from the surrounding community.”

2015 Donation Record BROKEN!!!

Original post dated 11/19/2016:

Good morning, Gardeners!  I am very pleased to announce that The Giving Garden broke our all-time donation record TODAY!  Last year’s total produce donations were 2,078 lbs. but this year we have exceeded 2,100 lbs…..and we are still donating, thanks to all of your efforts!!!  As you know, all of our donated organic veggies, fruits, and herbs go to Christian Community Action and AUMC Food Share.

The temp was 46 degrees this morning, but a lot of you nevertheless showed up to help harvest.  (Check out the attached pics to see everyone wearing their winter coats!)  Our harvest totaled 54 lbs., including the following pounds:  kale – 2.5, collards – 2.5, mustard greens – .5, radishes & carrots & peppers – 4.5, turnips – 7.5, lettuce – .5, peppers – 9, eggplants (all sizes!) – 14.5, okra – 2, herbs – .5, sweet potato & cucumber – 1, chard 1.5, and kale & cabbage .5.  You may notice that a lot of these items are lightweight, but we made up for it with lots of bulk.

So this Thanksgiving, I want to thank each and every one of you for all you have done to help our neighbors in need by growing and donating nutritious and yummy food.  I also want to thank you for your efforts and energy, your support of this garden and your kindness to one another.  This Thanksgiving, we have a lot to be thankful for and I am thankful for just knowing each and every one of you!

The Giving Garden of Carrollton, the first community garden within Carrollton, is proud to announce that it has surpassed its 10,000 lb. milestone!

Since its inception in 2010, we have donated over FIVE TONS of organic fruit, vegetables, and herbs to Christian Community Action and AUMC Food Share so that everyone in our community may enjoy good nutrition.

A big “Thank You” to our gardeners and everyone who has helped to support the garden over the years.

A special thanks to the Aldersgate United Methodist Church and it’s members for providing the land and resources which makes the garden possible.
